Happy Independence Day!

The Conservative Statesman wishes each of you a happy Independence Day! While we are out grilling, watching fireworks, and attending parades, let us not forget the true meaning of today.

We live in "the best country God has given man", in the true words of talk-show host Sean Hannity. Too many people wrongly criticize America for all the wrongs in the world. Actually, quite the opposite is true. We have contributed far more to this planet than we have taken away.

I was just speaking with a man by the name of Carlos the other day. Carlos is originally from Angola, but has been living in Tennessee for seven years. Carlos told me that this country is still the best place for freedom and opportunity in the world. When I told him of the sentiment from some that this country is "too-far-gone", or that we are a great contributor of evil in the world, his response was, "Oh, they should not say that".

My grandfather emigrated here from the Ukraine after World War II. I can look back and see the kind of progress in his life, and in the lives of all of his offspring. His achievements, and those of his descendants, could not have been accomplished in another country as greatly as they have been done here.

Let's take some time today to remember how blessed we are to live in this land. We truly live in "the best country God has given man"!
